PARTS OF THE AMPHITHEATRE DEFINED Parados = passageway through which the chorus and actors would enter and exit the stage Skene = the building directly behind the stage that depicted the setting of the play Proskenion = a raised platform in front of the skene where actors would sometimes perform Stage = where the actors performed Orchestra = a large circular space in the center of the amphitheater where the chorus would sing and dance Thymele = an altar in the center of the orchestra for the worship of Dionysus, the Greek god of theater and merriment Chorus = a group of performers who hang out in the orchestra and comment on the action of the play Diazoma = a passage that divided the upper and lower rows of seats in the amphitheater Koilon = where the audience sits, a.ka. theatron
