Statement of Need The Green County EMS has been in their present facility for over 30 years. The current building is landlocked and does not allow for expansion and it no longer can accommodate growth. Therefore, in the summer of 2011, anticipating the need for a new building, the Green County EMS purchased a lot across the street from its present location. • In 2008, EMS added the SUV, and in 2009, a third ambulance. The present facility has only two garage stalls. Vehicles have to be kept outside and plugged in to maintain the batteries. • Due to lack of garage stalls, all medications and fluids must be kept inside to prevent degradation from heat or freezing temperatures. • The present facility has sleeping quarters for three people (one crew). During times of the year, there is a need for two or three crews. Currently, there is only one classroom. There is a dire need to have three classrooms where lecture, hands-on-training, and testing can be done in groups. • A modern kitchen is also needed to feed crews, families that are stranded and others that are in training. • Storage space is extremely limited in the current building. Every room is filled with equipment, books and records. Even the chief’s office serves as a storage area for equipment and files. • Modern shower areas are needed for crews returning from calls. Plan to meet the need • Construction of new, approximately 15,000 sq. ft. no-frills, functional facility, with a 5-stall garage, allowing all vehicles to be kept inside. All vehicles inside allows for medications and fluids to remain in the vehicles. In addition, it allows maintenance on the ambulances to take place in a climate controlled area. The 5th stall allows for future expansion. • Three classrooms will be built within the new facility. This will provide for more than one class to be meeting at the same time. It will also give enough space for training, workshops and lectures. • Sleeping quarters for up to three crews will allow enough staff on site for those critical event times such as Cheese Days or during hazardous winter storms. • Adequate storage space that will accommodate medical equipment, medical supplies, uniforms, training supplies, books, records and office supplies. • A full-size kitchen is planned to serve meals for crews that are on duty for long shifts. In addition, a kitchen facility will be helpful to all-day training sessions, and all-day or multi-day events (Cheese Days). Our facility has also served meals to people stranded due to bad weather (blizzards). • Locker room/Shower areas are planned for those crew members returning from calls. • Meeting/Board Room will be used for volunteer meetings and trainings. • Administrative area including adequate office space for staff. Green County EMS … Commitment for Life
Community Impact • Emergency vehicles that are “call ready” during all types of weather. • Faster response times to individuals and residences. • Faster response times to corporate and company emergencies. • Larger, better equipped and state-of-the-art training materials. • Additional classrooms will provide for community emergency trainings/classes. • Higher quality and additional community educational opportunities. • Safer and more secure medical equipment and supplies. • Additional staff available during peak times. • New facility will be energy efficient saving financial resources. • Provide for emergency shelter for those stranded due to weather or catastrophes. • EMT’s that are highly trained, well equipped and proud of their facilities.
