  3. RESPONSIBILITY In order to give a good image to the public, we have decided that it is important to portray the school’s core values. Among them, we find that students in our school lack responsibility. Hence, we have come out with a plan to increase the level of responsibility in pupils.

  4. Problem Pupils do not pick up litter when they see it and they do not take initiative to clean up their classroom.

  5. Often Often Sometimes Sometimes Seldom Seldom Never Never Yes No Survey Questions (pupils) Q1. I pick up litter that I see in school. Q2. I take initiative to clean up my classroom. Q3. I have littered before.

  6. Results (pupils) 61% out of 100% that has participated in the survey had littered before.

  7. Often Sometimes Seldom Never Yes Yes No No Survey Questions (teachers) Q1. Do your pupils need reminders to clean up the class? Q2. Have you seen pupils littering in school before? Q3. Do you think pupils should be punished if they are caught littering?

  8. Results (teachers) 100% of the teachers had agreed that their pupils needed reminders before they would clean up the classroom. Now, if you look back at question 2 of the pupils’ survey, 4 pupils admitted that they seldom take initiative to clean up their classrooms and 1 pupil admitted that he never take his own initiative to clean up his classroom.

  9. Our Solution • If pupils do not pick up litter or caught throwing litter, they would have to wear a tag after 3 times which says ‘Save the earth, pick up litter’ . • Draw Lots (Everyday, one group would receive a box which consist of every individual name. The group would have to draw three lots and the person whose name is on the lot would have to clean up the classroom. the pupils who had cleaned the classroom, their names will be taken out from the box. Once the box is empty, all the lots would be placed back into the box again and the cycle repeats.) • Awarding System (If the pupil takes initiative to clean up the classroom, the teacher would give the pupil a sticker. If the pupil collected 10 stickers, he/she can get a prize.)

  10. Solution Chosen Among all the solutions, we decided to choose solution number 2 (Draw Lots). Why? We find that Solution 2 might be most effective because if we draw lots, everyone would get a chance to clean up the classroom and the pupils who had cleaned the classroom, their names will be taken out from the box. Therefore, this solution is also fair.

  11. Reflections • Yu Wen: I think that it is very important to have a clean environment to study. Therefore, we all must be responsible to do our part and not throw litter. Even though we have experienced difficulties while doing the project, we did not give up and continued to strive towards the best. I would also like to thank everybody who helped us to succeed during the project. • Jia Hui: I think that responsibility is very important because it is our core value and I think to have a school identity, we must display our school core value. Throughout this project work, my group mates have faced certain disagreement. However, we would discuss and write down all our ideas. We would choose the best idea. • Celine: I think that responsibility is important as it represents the school. While we were doing the project, we had difficulties agreeing on one thing. In the end we would brainstorm and find an idea that we all agree on. • Zhi Lin: School identity is very important to me. To me, school identity means how pupils portray our school’s values and how pupils showcase their talents. I had learnt a lot of things regarding school identity. I have also learnt how important communication is within a group. As without communication, we would not be able to work well together and have what we have now.
