  1. Incoming Freshman! Class of 2017: What You Need to Know About Forecasting!

  2. Forecasting • Course selections for next school year • Will help you to: • Pick your classes for next year • Complete your graduation requirements • Help you explore electives • Meet requirements for OSAA eligibility • Prepare you for your post-high school plans

  3. Your day at Glencoe • 8 period block schedule • Approximately 90 minutes long • A/B day rotation • Lunch is before or after 3rd period class based on where in building 3rd period class is • 30 minutes • Learning Lab after school for homework • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays • One hour after school • Activity bus can take you home!

  4. Grades in high school • Grades • F is a failing grade, earns no credit • D is a passing grade, does earn HS credit • Will not help you towards college • Think about you grades NOW! • HS = a fresh start! • What GOOD habits do you need to develop? • What do you need to improve? • Use your planner! • Do your HW every day! It is practice of the concepts • Study for upcoming quizzes and tests!

  5. Things to consider • OSAA Athletics or Activity Eligibility • Must pass 5 classes from previous semester • 2.0 GPA if any Fs • If you don’t meet these requirements, you cannot compete with team, but you can practice

  6. What are your plans after high school? • College Requirements • Aim for a 3.0+ GPA • Cs or better in all core classes • Good attendance • 2 credits of the same foreign language

  7. Graduation Requirements • Language Arts: • 4.0 credits • Math: • 3.0 credits • Science: • 3.0 credits • Social Studies: • 3.0 credits • PE: • 1.0 credit • Health: • 1.0 credit • Electives: • 8.0 credits • Career Development: • .5 credit • Senior Project: • .5 credit • (At least) 24 credits to graduate! • .5 credit = one semester class • 1.0 credit = full-year course

  8. What you need for graduation • State Testing: • Must pass OAKS or have work samples in these subjects as part of graduation requirements: • Reading • Writing • Math • Diplomas • Modified, Standard, Chancellors, Honors

  9. Freshman Requirements • Language Arts: • 1.0 credit (full-year) • Math: • 1.0 credit (full-year) • Science: • 1.0 credit (full-year) • Social Studies: • 1.0 credit (full-year) • PE: • .5 credit (semester)

  10. Freshman Requirements • Electives: • Up to 3.5 credits • Full-year or semester • Can include: • Study Hall (no credit) • AVID • World Language • Be realistic – consider your overall load • Multiple Honors/Advanced classes? • Extracurricular activities and commitments

Things to Consider • Study Hall • Available to provide time for class work, homework, studying for test, math tutor, etc. • If you have any Ds or Fs this year, you should take it! • Earns no credit • AVID • For students who want more support in their current classes and their plans after high school • Requires an application (available in the counseling center) • Requires an interview

  13. Forecasting Sheet • Language Arts: 4.0 credits total for graduation • Science: 3.0 credits total for graduation • Math: 3.0 credits total for graduation • Reg vs. Honors: • Current grade • OAKS • Etc. Math Recs: Done by current teacher – get their signature!

  14. Forecasting sheet • Social Studies: 3.0 credits total for graduation • PE: 1.0 credit total for graduation • Electives: 5.0 credits total for graduation • Fill out ALL elective options and ALL alternates in order of preference • Choose wisely – you may get any that you list! • A/B options
