  29. Intended Use FITstep Pedometer MOVband To measure MVPA each day or class period Monitor your progression to make sure you are getting your 60 minutes of MVPA each day Use while walking or running or just going about your daily routine To count how much you move every day To keep track of your miles moved Use while walking or running or playing a sport

  30. Pros vs. Cons FITstep Pedometer MOVband Pros: Cheap, easy to use, Quick to set up Small, lightweight Doesn’t need an app or computer Provides information immediately Cons: Doesn’t always count your steps accurately Only has one main feature • Pros: • Cheap • Can track your movement on the computer • Looks like a watch • Long battery life • Cons: • Miles don’t automatically reset every day (manually) • Device only shows your time, moves, and miles (not steps)

  31. Application FITstep Pedometer MOVband 25 students 25 pedometers = $625 The device can be worn for any sport or activity (except swimming) Scavenger Hunt Data collected: Number of steps, MVPA 25 students 25 pedometers = $750 The device can be worn for any sport or activity (except swimming) Scavenger Hunt Data collected: # of moves, miles

  32. Collection Management FITstep Pedometer MOVband Data will be collected from each student at the very end and will be assessed based on their efforts between each station (MVPA) I would rate the ease and use of this data for in a physical education setting a 3 out of 5 due to the simplicity and data provided Data will be collected from each student at the end and will be assessed based on their number of moves I would rate the ease and use of this data for in a physical education setting a 4 out of 5 only because it is very easy for the students to wear and set-up, and it provides you with their number of moves immediately

  33. Ways to Motivate FITstep Pedometer MOVband Have the students predict what their steps will be Give prizes Make number of steps a competition Set goals/Have a minimum number of steps each student must achieve Be excited about this device and be an advocate to others Set goals Have incentives for most moves/miles Promote activity for others

  34. Recommendation FITstep Pedometer MOVband I would definitely recommend this for a physical education class because it’s affordable, easy to use, can be used for almost any activity, and it’s a quick way to monitor your students MVPA. I would recommend using this in a physical education setting because it doesn’t just count the steps of the students but it is able to track their every move which can provide you with more data than a regular step counter (pedometer).

  35. MotionX App • Designed for the iPhone 5 • Also compatible with iPad and iPod touch • Measures many different things • Sleep patterns • Weight • Steps • Etc.

  36. Cost $0.99 One of the cheapest options that we found! Actually pretty cheap Get a great health app for less than what is in this jar!

  40. Application Students track everything for an entire week There are 25 students therefore we need 25 iPhones, iPads or iPod touches. Straps that hold them to your arm Students will keep the device with them at all times for the duration of the week Monitor everything that is possible during that time

  41. Data Use Want to know how active the students are. What are their sleep patterns like? I will collect all of the data at the end of the week. Data will be used to assess the health of our students as well as if our students have healthy habits or not. Motivation-we will do this several times throughout the semester. Once you hit so many miles you will receive a small reward.

  42. Recommendation/rating Rating – 9/10 I recommend buying this app It would be nice to add your own steps Also be nice to count calories with it Overall very good app for the price-I would buy it again in a heart beat!

  43. Which App do you think would be most useful to you or your students/clients? • MIO HR Watch • UP Band • FITstep Pedometer • FitBit Flex • MotionX App • MOVband • None/Can’t decide

  44. Our Recommendation • Due to cost, accessibility, and simplicity, we feel that the best device that suits the physical education setting is the MOVband. • It provides the same data and a little more than the pedometer for only about 5 dollars more • Much cheaper than the other devices and will be a better fit for most schools
