  1. Welcome to Bible Study byOverseer T.D. Rouse III Hearing God’s voice

  2. Hearing God’s Voice • One of the things we must discover about life is that when God speaks he gives direction concerning our life. • Habakkuk 2:1-3 • One of the areas that I feel saints fail in is listening to the voice of God for direction. • I've watched Christians make decisions that have produced alarming self-inflicted wounds. • In each case, they did what they did because they firmly believed God was the one who called, led or inspired them to do so.

  3. Hearing God’s Voice • But in the end, they married the wrong person, bought a car that turned out to be a lemon, bought a house they could not afford and started ministries and businesses that were doomed for failure from the onset. • I've watched people claim God told them to quit their jobs to do the work of the ministry. • But it wasn't long before their cars were repossessed and they were begging for money to pay their bills, and finally had to file bankruptcy.

  4. Hearing God’s Voice • But you must understand the law of God. • When you follow the Lord’s voice, vision will come to pass. • The Lord is never going to lead you to bankruptcy or divorce court, ministry or business failure, or into a bad consumer deal! • Under no circumstances will He lead you into marital turmoil, financial shame or ministry embarrassment.

  5. Hearing God’s Voice • Psalm 23:3 said he leads in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake. • Which means God gets no glory out of your failing at what he told you to do. • If you find yourself trapped in one of those traumatic moments in time, just know that the voice of the Holy Spirit DID NOT lead you there! • You got there because you listened to or followed the wrong voice, or you made a bad decision.

  6. Hearing God’s Voice • Do you know there are five voices that speak to you. • In every decision that you are called to make and in every situation that you are faced with, there is always going to be five different voices speaking to you. • And in most cases each voice will lead you in the opposite direction of God’s voice. • The bible declares that your ways are different from the lord ways.

  7. Hearing God’s Voice • Here are the five different types of voices • The voice of God • The voice of your conscience • The voice of your reasoning • The voice of your flesh, and • The voice of the devil

  8. Hearing God’s Voice • The sincere Christians who consistently miss God's voice, either: • don't know about all of these five voices, or • they have not learned how to discern which voice is speaking. • Each voice has a distinct sound and is easily discernable once you know what to listen for.

  9. Hearing God’s Voice • They each have a distinctive sound pitch. • We're going to examine each of these five voices and get to know their sound pitch from the Written Word of God. • Psalm 55;1-3 The Voice of The devil • The enemy has a voice that speaks to you and you must be aware of when the enemy talks to you.

  10. Hearing God’s Voice • Here is some of the ways you can detect the voice of the enemy or the devil. • He deceives you. (Revelation 20:7-8) • Causes oppression (Acts 10: 38) • Discourages you ( Numbers 32: 6-10) • Cause you to be bitter, (Colossians 3:19)    • Cause confusion, (Acts 19:32)  • Cause you to rationalize sin, (Isaiah 5:20)   • Blind your mind, (II Corinthians 4:4)

  11. Hearing God’s Voice • Cause you to lie, (I John 2:4) • Cause you to doubt God's Word, (Hebrews 3:12) • Cause division in your family, church, business, (Mark 3:25) • Cause you to disobey the Word of God, (Joshua 5:6) • Inspire rage, anger and malice, (Ephesians 4:31) • Bring you fear, (Mark 4:40)

  12. Hearing God’s Voice • Torment you, (Matthew 8:6) • Cause you to lose hope, (Job 7:1-15) • Cause you to lose hope, (Job 7:1-15)   • Cause you to be dismayed, (Joshua 1:9) • Cause you to seek revenge, (Ezekiel 25:15) • Cause you to curse God, (Job 2:9) • Stir up unforgiveness, (Matthew 6:15) • Cause you to be ashamed of the gospel, (Mark 8:38) • Cause you not to hear God’s voice, (John 10:5)

  13. Welcome to Bible Study byOverseer T.D. Rouse III Hearing God’s voice

  14. Hearing God’s Voice • Then there is the voice of the Flesh • Galatians 5: 16-21 • Your flesh has a voice! It speaks to you in a commanding and authoritative sound pitch. • It doesn't matter if you are an apostle, prophet, pastor, CEO, Governor, Police Chief or an average citizen. • Your flesh speaks to you constantly. Any time you follow the voice of your flesh, the net result will always be negative.

  15. Hearing God’s Voice • You can never follow the voice of your flesh and things turn out, "ok!" The fifth chapter of the book of Galatians reveals the sound pitch of your flesh. • You know you are listening to the voice of the flesh when you engage in these

  16. Hearing God’s Voice • Fornication - pornography, harlotry, incest • Uncleanness - homosexuality, lesbianism, pedophilia, sexual perversion • Lasciviousness - undisciplined, lewd, overeater, lazy, shiftless • Idolatry - worship sports stars, movie stars, music icons, preachers, money, etc. • Witchcraft - includes drug use, spells, luck charms, horoscopes, zodiac signs

  17. Hearing God’s Voice • Hatred - hold grudges and malice and be angry at someone • Variance - to quarrel with words, stir up strife and incite debates • Emulations - the spirit of jealousy, rivalry spirit • Wrath - creating domestic and civic turmoil • Strife - getting pay back for a wrong, angry contentions • Seditions - stirring up strife in the church, government, home, etc. • Heresies - causing discord, unrighteous indignation

  18. Hearing God’s Voice • Envying - to wish ill will toward a person, organization or group of people • Murder - to spoil or mar the happiness of others, to kill • Drunkenness - public or private intoxication, alcoholic, addicted to • Revellings - clubs, house parties, carousing, obscene music

  19. Hearing God’s Voice • The voice of your flesh will never inspire you to do the will of God. • The voice of your flesh will only lead you into all the things we just discussed. • When you hear the voice of the flesh you have to bring it into subjection to the will and word of God • I Corinthians 9:27

  20. Hearing God’s Voice • Then there is the voice of Reasoning • The Lord God has given us the ability to reason. • We have that ability so that we may rationally consider all options, blessings and curses, obstacles, situations, consequences, advantages versus disadvantages and profits versus losses. • You can always tell when you are listening to the voice of your reasoning because you will weigh the things you see and hear in the natural.

  21. Hearing God’s Voice • The word of God tells us that behold I put before you life and death, good and evil and we have to choose. • Mark 2:6-8 • Jesus told the man sick on his bed that his sins were forgiven. • Now all these people came to see Jesus but when he spoke these word they began to reason in themselves who he was.

  22. Hearing God’s Voice • They were there but because what he said changed their views toward him. • And many times the enemy will change your views toward things of what we see and hear in the natural. • Your faith can be shaken by the voice of reasoning. • Because its one thing to count up the cost but its another thing to doubt that God is able to do what he said he is able to do.

  23. Hearing God’s Voice • Your voice of reasoning will look at all the factors and make a decision based on all the factors it has. • And you must be careful because the voice of reason works to ways. • It can sometimes direct you into the will or it can direct you against the will of God. • And if it doesn’t correspond with the word of God then you must learn to abandon the voice of reasoning.

  24. Hearing God’s Voice • Numbers 13: 26-33 • Their voice of reason said we know the land is just like God said it was and it has all the fruit he said it did. • But there are giants in the land. • And the voice of reasoning said we can’t take the land that God gave us and we look like grasshoppers in their eye sight. • You can become to small for what God has said is yours because of your voice of reasoning. • That’s why we walk by faith and not by sight.

  25. Hearing God’s Voice • The voice of reasoning is fueled by what we see and hear. • Faith is what we say and believe.

  26. Welcome to Bible Study byOverseer T.D. Rouse III Hearing God’s voice

  27. Hearing God’s Voice • The voice of the Conscience • Your conscience is the place where you recognize the difference between what is right versus what is wrong. • It is the place where you establish morals and values, or where you reject good morals and values and become reprobate in your mind.

  28. Hearing God’s Voice • Your conscience can be your guardian angel in a sense. It is the voice that’s speaks right and wrong in your ear. • That is why I have discovered people who know right from wrong know when they are in the will and out of the will. • The bible said to him that know and sin it is sin. • Your voice of conscience was instill from a child on forth. • That is why you have to develop morals and values in your child while they are a child.

  29. Hearing God’s Voice • I understand now why the bible tells us that God’s spirit wouldn’t always strive with man. • There are times in your life that you have to make decision and choices and it is not a God decision its yours. • Acts 24:16 • Therefore I always exercise and discipline myself [mortifying my body, deadening my carnal affections, bodily appetites, and worldly desires, endeavoring in all respects] to have a clear (unshaken, blameless) conscience, void of offense toward God and toward men.

  30. Hearing God’s Voice • Your conscience will fall into four categories in your life. • A good conscience • A weak conscience • A seared conscience • A evil conscience • 1st Timothy 1:5 • It said the commandment is to love from a pure heart, a pure conscience and from sincere faith

  31. Hearing God’s Voice • Your desire should be to have a good conscience. • Paul teaches timothy to love out of a pure heart with a good conscience. • When you have a good conscience you can be a person that is trusted. • A good conscience enforces you to have good character. • Leaders should have a good conscience.

  32. Hearing God’s Voice • The higher you go in life the more desire you should have for a good conscience. It is the voice that is with you when people are not around. • A good conscience develops character in your life that will enable you to walk in the will of God. • Even if you sin I believe the one thing that is good about a person is when they have a good conscience that will tell them when they have done wrong.

  33. Hearing God’s Voice • Paul said in Acts I mortify my body or I strive to keep my self right so that I can serve and worship with a clear conscience. • If you walk in sin and can serve God with a clear conscience something is wrong. • If you can treat people any kind of way, talk behind there back, belittle them and pull them down and your conscience doesn’t bother you something is wrong.

  34. Hearing God’s Voice • Because a good conscience will speak the truth, and morals and values in your life. • Now its still your choice to follow but you want a good conscience. • I Corinthians 8:7 • There is what is called a weak conscience • A weak conscience is there are some morals and values but they are weak and easily change.

  35. Hearing God’s Voice • Paul was teaching the Corinthian church that some of them were delivered from eating food unto idols. • But they would still go into the idol temple and eat but they knew who they were eating unto. • But there were some who were not as strong and when they saw the stronger saints eating in the same place there conscience was troubled because it was weak. • They thought they were still eating unto the idols.

  36. Hearing God’s Voice • You have to be careful around new converts or babes in Christ because you can damage there spirit easy. • This is a what is called a weak conscience. • When you come into the knowledge of Christ from the world your learning new values and morals. • But when you find seasoned saints doing the same thing as the world it damages there weak conscience. • And Paul teaches them that if food makes there brother stumble don’t eat meat again.

  37. Hearing God’s Voice • And you have to watch out for the weak conscience folks because you don’t want to make them stumble. • That’s why new saints need to get around deep rooted people. • Deep rooted people who have a good conscience. • I timothy 4:1-5 • Next is a seared conscience.

  38. Hearing God’s Voice • A seared conscience is one that has been damaged and burn by wickedness and deceiving spirits. • In timothy Paul teaches that there are going to be some coming teaching false doctrines and there consciences has been seared from believing the truth or having good morals. • Verse 3 said forbidding to marry. • And now you see religions who are legalizing Gay marriages and supporting the marriages of Gays.

  39. Hearing God’s Voice • And they can stand up for this and have a clear conscience because it has been seared. • There conscience is damaged and they believe that its ok for this abomination to go forth. • Hebrews 10:19-25 • And last there is a Evil conscience. • Hebrews teaches us let us draw near to God to have our conscience sprinkled with the blood of Jesus.

  40. Hearing God’s Voice • A evil conscience only desire is evil. • That is why people can kill with no remorse. • And can walk around like nothing has been done. • You have to be careful with people with an evil conscience. • They are not afraid of nothing, right, wrong, or anything. • No matter what the consequences are it doesn’t matter because they have a evil conscience.

  41. Hearing God’s Voice • The voice of your conscience is good to listen to as long as you have a good conscience. • but when a person has a weak, seared or evil conscience, it would be unadvisable for them to follow the voice of their conscience. • You must discover what kind of conscience you have and pray for a conscience that is good and pleasing to God.

  42. Hearing the Voice of God By Overseer T.D. Rouse III

  43. Hearing God’s Voice • We have been studying on the five voices that speak to us in our mind. • The voice of your conscience • The voice of your reasoning • The voice of your flesh • The voice of the devil • And tonight we will deal with the voice of God.

  44. Hearing God’s Voice • We talked about the voice of the devil • If you hear: fear, confusion, torment, doubt, justification of sin, etc., you don't have to pray about it or seek counseling. You are listening to the voice of the devil! • And we talked about the voice of the flesh • The voice of the flesh will never inspire you to do the will of God.

  45. Hearing God’s Voice • We talked about the voice of reasoning • You can always tell when you are listening to the voice of your reasoning because you will weigh the things you see and hear in the natural. • You will deliberate and think things through, and afterwards, make your decision. • Then we talked about the voice of your conscience

  46. Hearing God’s Voice • Your conscience is the place where you recognize the difference between what is right versus what is wrong. • It is the place where you establish morals and values, or where you reject good morals and values and become reprobate in your mind. • And the last one is the voice of God. • To listen for the voice of God you have to know the sounds that God speaks.

  47. Hearing God’s Voice • John 10: 1-5 • Said God sheep will know his voice and a stranger they will not follow. • The key to hearing God’s voice is to know what you are listening for. • It’s not a specific sound or tone pitch but it’s the word of God that is spoken in your heart and mind that you know the voice of God.

  48. Hearing God’s Voice • You will know your are hearing the voice of God when you hear these sounds in your spirit. • II Timothy 3:16 • Any time you hear instruction in righteousness you know that is the voice of God. • We must not be mistaken God will never tempt any man but man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust. • So God always gives instruction in righteousness or he gives a word that is what is right.

  49. Hearing God’s Voice • He not only speaks for instruction in righteousness but he also speaks a word of Correction. • Proverbs 3: 11-12 • The bible said if we be without chastisement then we are bastards. • So God will often time come and correct us. • When he speaks a word of correction you must understand that your hearing the voice of God. • Many times people say I didn’t hear God speaking to me well the teaching of hearing the voices is that you understand what is told to you.

  50. Hearing God’s Voice • When someone comes and tell me they heard God told them this or that I listen to what he told them to determine if its God’s voice or not. • And his word will send correction to our life. • And when you hear a word of correction you know that is the voice of God. • John 14:26 • The voice of God will bring back the word of God to your remembrance
