Sustainable Business Models • Understanding the challenges to library budgets • Mature markets versus emerging markets • Creating hybrid business model offerings – Oxford Bibliographies Online, Oxford Handbooks Online, Oxford Reference Online • Demand and use as key measures for purchasing: understanding how to drive demand and increase usage

Sharing Expertise – University Press Scholarship Online • Oxford’s monograph publishing platform since 2003 • Platform has evolved and adapted to changing user behavior with e-books • Business models have also evolved and will continue to – more choices, more refined selection processes. • Sales expertise

University Press Scholarship Online – new platform Oxford is assisting other university presses create their own “branded” presence Gives their press a unique home, retaining their identity as a press Truly collaborative: assisting with workflow and operational issues Experience on author relations and royalties Allows the presses to gain a worldwide presence and a global sales/marketing team Completely cross-searchable and connected with OUP content

University Press Scholarship Online – strengths of the new platform XML interface – extremely flexible and future-proof Fully mobile enabled in December Allows for rich metadata at tagging throughout Abstracts and keywords freely available and indexed – 30-35% of traffic coming from search engines Fully open URL compliant citations and references Flexibility to quickly download and save, print or email chapters in PDF format in one click for offline reading

University Press Scholarship Online – Business Models, expanded • New content continues to be published 3x yearly • All publishers on the platform available individually in this model – libraries can still pick and choose from the publishers in the standard model • NEW! Purchase by sub-discipline. • Main subjects – 21 total • Sub-disciplines – 270+ available (ex American History) • Title count: 5 titles in a sub-discipline to the largest with 200 titles

University Press Scholarship Online – Business Models, expanded • Sub-discipline purchasing: • Purchase only • Available across all presses • Initial selection contains all previously published titles in that subdiscipline, and then annual updates e (receive all titles as soon as available in the sub-discipline) • The most selective purchasing of UPSO available today
