  2. Group • The Alkaline metals are located in Group 2

Characteristics • Alkaline metals have 2 Valence Electrons • Do not occur naturally in their elemental state • Are less reactive then Alkali Metals • Form ionic compounds primarily • React with water to form bases and hydrogen gas • Are good conductors of heat and electricity • Have silvery luster

  4. Elements • Beryllium • Magnesium • Calcium • Strontium • Barium • Radium

  5. Uses • Beryllium: Sheets of beryllium foil are used with X-ray detection diagnostics. • Calcium is essential for human nutrition.

  6. Uses • Magnesium & Strontium: The bright colors that both of these elements give off when they are burned make them great for fireworks.

  7. Uses • Barium: Used for Glass making • Radium: Used for neon lighting
