  2. What are plastics? They are a wide range of mouldable synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids. Typically organic polymers of high molecular mass, but supplementary contain other substances. They're most commonly derived from petrochemicals. It’s a material that is not fully biodegradable. This means it cannot be broken down, or at least not quickly, but rather must be recycled. Plastic is durable and strong—Which is the reason why it is dangerous if it reaches the ocean

  3. Why is there ‘so much’ plastic pollution? We currently recover only 5% of the plastics we produce Pollution exists today due to the society's lack of environmental awareness & the ease of simply littering plastics.

  4. Who is affected? The species that is most affectedis the marine, aquaticpopulation. To a sea turtle, a floating plastic bag looks like a jellyfish. When they eat these plastics, it clogs their intestines, and they miss out on vital nutrients, and ultimately the turtles starve to death Other types of loose plastics entangle birds, fish and mammals, making it difficult, if not impossible to move or eat, which too leads to their ultimate demise.

  5. Who is affected? 0.05% of plastic pieces from surface waters are pellets They comprise about 70% of the plastic eaten by seabirds. These plastic particles have been found in the stomachs of 63 of the world's approximately 250 species of seabirds. Birds and other marine animals gets trapped in plastic shopping bags, which suffocate them to death.

  6. How to prevent plastic pollution? Recycle! Recycle & Recycle! Many communities offer pick-up recycling programs for #1 and #2 plastics. Other forms of plastic may be accepted by a local recycling business. Spread the awareness to others about the problem of the pollution of plastics Get involved. Locate or start a coastal cleanup in your area

  7. How to prevent plastic pollution? Look for alternative materials or avoid excessive packaging when deciding on purchases. Use paper bags, milk and juice in cardboard, and cloth diapers. Insist on paper bags and glass bottles.
