  3. SU Committee Positions All eight positions are up for election… • SU President • Vice President • Environmental Officer • Campaign and Events Officer • Equality and Diversity Officer • Mature Student Officer • LGBT Officer • Disabilities Officer

  4. SU President Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Be the prime representative of the SU and seek to involve as many students in the SU as possible. • If invited to attend the Governing Body and other relevant College committees, and report back to the SU. • Lead delegations to the NUS annual conference, regional conferences and any area conference and report back to the SU. • Regularly report on his/her activities to the Student Council. • Be the prime representative of the SU to liaise with the college over any matters affecting students. • Meet with the Returning Officer and ensure that elections happen in accordance with the Constitution; notify the Committee of any officer resignations and ensure that the Committee decides on the appropriate action. • Maintain all legal documentation relating to the SU, including the Constitution, instrument and articles of government, the SU Code of Practice and all legal advice. • Arrange induction training for the Committee following their elections.

Vice President Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Participate fully in Committee meetings • In conjunction with the President, ensure the interests of students are well represented across the College and also in the Committee and the Student Council meetings. • Ensure that SU activities are published on the College website and on the intranet. • Co-ordinate SU activities in the Student Centre • Promote elections for Course Reps and SU Officers to encourage high participation • Represent students with the College Executive issues

Equality and Diversity Officer Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Participate fully in Committee Meetings • Make sure that all the interests and issues from the diverse range of students at EKC are covered across college, at Committee and Student Council meetings. • Support the Campaign and Events officer by organising events which celebrate the diversity of the students. • Represent students on issues relating to equality and diversity. • Assist with local and national projects/ campaigns related to equality and diversity.

  7. Environmental Officer Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Participate fully in Committee meetings • Support the Campaign and Events officer by organising events/clubs and societies which promote environmentally friendly practice. • Represent students on issues relating to the environment. • Assist with local and national projects/ campaigns related to the environment. • Make sure that environmental interests and issues at EKC are covered across college, at Committee and Student Council meetings.

  8. Campaigns and Events Officer Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Participate fully in Committee Meetings • Arrange a host of SU events throughout the academic year. • Organise and support local and national campaigns. • Promote the SU campaign and events.

Mature Student Officer Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Make sure that all the interests and issues from mature students at EKC are covered across college, at Committee and Student Council meetings. • Support the Campaign and Events officer by organising events which celebrate the diversity of the students. • Represent students on issues relating to mature students particularly. • Assist with local and national projects/ campaigns related to equality and diversity. • Support the Equality & Diversity Officer by organising events/clubs and societies which promote inclusive practice. • Represent students on issues relating to studying as a mature student. • Assist with local and national projects/ campaigns related to equality & diversity. • Make sure that mature student interests and issues at EKC are covered across College, at Committee and Student Council meetings.

  10. Disabilities Officer Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Participate fully in Committee Meetings • Provide students with disabilities views on all matters concerning the SU and the college, and ensure there is a regular forum/group where students with disabilities can meet. Feedback their views to the SU at team meetings • Establish and maintain contact with, and provide information from, groups and organisations which work on disability issues • Monitor the college’s provision for students with disabilities, and bring failings in this provision to the attention of the SU and the College Executive.

  11. LBGT Officer Role Who shall be a member of the Committee, shall: • Participate fully in Committee Meetings • Provide a lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-sexual (LGBT) perspective on all matters concerning the union and the college, and ensure there is a regular forum/group where LGBT students can meet • Establish and maintain contact with, and provide information from, groups and organisations which work on LGBT issues • Represent the views of LGBT students to the SU at team meetings
