  1. Should the Wilmington Port be Expanded or Not? Product: Giving a Presentation about the How Businesses in Johnston County can Better Utilize the Port of Wilmington Presented by Thomas A Fakadej

Why I Choose My Topic/Product • I choose this topic because the ports of our state effect us but we really never pay attention to them or notice their influence in out lives. • In addition a family friend works for the port and the way he talked about it so energetically first gave me interest into the topic.

  3. Some Information About the Topic • The Wilmington Port is not prepared to accept Post-Panamax ships, which are ships that will be allowed to go through the Panama Canal once its expansion is complete in a few years.

  4. Information About the Topic Cont. • The Port supports $500 million in local and state taxes. • The port also supports the existence of 65,000 jobs in North Carolina.

  5. Information About the Topic Cont. • The Wilmington Port is for the most part self-funded. • The port at Wilmington is the only port in North Carolina that offers container shipping, but still it only ships a fraction of what its competitors in Charleston, Savanna and Norfolk are able to ship.

  6. Information About the Topic Cont. • The port at Wilmington has four new post-panamax cranes. • The port will be constructing a new flash freezing building to help increase food exports that are able to move through the port.

  7. Obstacles I Faced • The largest obstacle I faced was procrastination. • It also had a minor issue with ghost quotes in my paper.

  8. Successes I had • I passed the first time. • I learned about in text citation. • I learned how to further develop my point in a paper

Research and Product Connection • The research I conducted was about whether or not the port should be expanded or not. • The information I found was mainly about the economic influence that the Port of Wilmington had on the state so I focus on how the port could have a more positive impact on Johnston County’s businesses when utilized.

  11. What I Learned About Myself • I learned that I don’t like to interact a great deal with people I don’t know but it is still necessary. • I enjoy facts and learning about systems but I am not fond of teaching about those facts or systems.

  12. My Future • This experience will allow me to present better. • It will also allow me to find information better. • In addition I will be able to talk to people to complete a task.
