Center for Nursing Expansion & Innovation • In 2005, the Chancellor’s Office of the California Community Colleges awarded a 5-year grant of $8.5 million to an alliance of Napa Valley College, Solano Community College, and numerous North San Francisco Bay hospitals and agencies. • The main aim of the grant’s funds was to implement the alliance’s Center for Nursing Expansion & Innovation (CNEI) project to increase the number and knowledge of nurses practicing in the North Bay area. • A key feature of the project was to establish the “Wine Country Regional Simulation Center” in the unused 6-bed ICU of the hospital at the California Veteran’s Home campus in Yountville.

  5. WCRSC Development: The Early Steps Getting the simulators to “bed” The 1st 3 “Stans” are setup, wired, powered & ready to go!

  6. WCRSC Development: The “Soft Opening” With the initial development phase of WCRSC done, the CNEI team wanted to share the facility with the community. Dr. Christopher McCarthy, NVC President, addresses “Soft Opening” audience. Marcella McCormack, Administrator of the CDVA Yountville Veterans Home & Dr. Christopher McCarthy, cut the ribbon. “Soft Opening” guests visit 1 of the 3 simulator rooms.

  7. WCRSC Development: Early Utilization Staff RNs from the alliance’s partner hospitals use the WCRSC to enhance their skills & knowledge. Student RNs use the WCRSC to apply concepts in a “safe” setting. All participants reinforce their learning with the WCRSC’s digital video feedback sessions.
