In 1905, the world's first production of nitrogen fertilizer, Norgessalpeter (calcium nitrate), took place at a test facility in Notodden, Norway. This pioneering effort utilized the innovative Birkeland-Eyde process, which harnessed hydroelectric power to extract nitrogen from the air. Crop Production Services (CPS) has upheld a commitment to agriculture since 1859 and, as part of the Agrium family since 1994, contributes significantly to the industry. Today, CF Industries, based in Deerfield, IL, operates major fertilizer manufacturing and distribution networks across North America.
