Jeremiah 31:31, 33 • "Behold, days are coming," declares the Lord, "when I will make a newcovenantwith the house of Israel & with the house of Judah, • But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the Lord, "I will put Mylaw within them & on their heart I will write it; & I will be their God, & they shall be My people.

  3. Matthew 5:17-18 • Do not think that I came to abolish [destroy] the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven & earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished [fulfilled].

  4. Definitions • Law: • Books of Moses: Moral, Judicial, Ceremonial • Prophets: • Old Testament: 4 Major & 12 Minor • Fulfill: • “To carry out as a promise; to do a duty; to satisfy; to bring to an end, complete”.

  5. He fulfilled every prophecy • Jer 31:15 Thus says the Lord, "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more." (Matt 2:17-18) • Macrobius (A.D. 395-423). When he [Augustus] heard that among the boys in Syria under two years old whom Herod, king of the Jews, had ordered to kill, his own son was also killed, he said: it is better to be Herod's pig, than his son."

  6. He fulfilled every penalty • Gal 3:10 (Deut 27:26) For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM.” • Gal 3:13 (Deut 21:23) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us — for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE"

  8. He fulfilled every purpose • Gal 3:24-28 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

  9. “It is finished” • Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, … • thatall things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses & the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."

The New on The Old • Ephesians 2:14-15 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace.

The New on The Old • Colossians 2:14-15 having canceledout the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; & He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers & authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
