  4. What are micro-messages? • Subtle, semi-conscious messages that are universally understood – can demonstrate either inclusion or exclusion • Negative messages are described as “micro-inequities” • Positive messages are described as “macro-advantages

  9. Micro-Advantages • Solicit Opinions • Attribute / credit ideas • Monitor facial expressions • Actively listen • Monitor personal greetings • Respond constructively to disagreements

Micro-messaging awareness • Will enhance your collaboration and performance skills • You can enhance inclusion in your environment by noticing those who are targets of micro-inequities; help peers address behaviors that may be undermining others ability to contribute • Use macro-advantages to improve your leadership skills
