This inspired them to create their own images of African women.

2. Summer Art ExhibitionAll of the children in the school worked on a multicultural theme for this term’s Summer Art Exhibition. Each two year groups based their work on a different country or countries.

3. Mrs Smith’s choir performed some multicultural songs at the start of the exhibition and did a fantastic job. Well done to all of you!

4. Foundation 1 Children created work inspired by ‘African Art’Children in Foundation 1 created the African flag using a range of different collage materials. The children also made some African collar style necklaces which they wore to take part in some traditional African dancing.

5. Foundation 2African WomenThe children in Foundation 2 have been looking closely at different patterns within African Art.

6. They studied pictures and images portraying African women and the different patterns of the clothes and jewellery worn.

7. This inspired them to create their own images of African women.

8. They also looked at some patterns within traditional batik work and created batik panels using a flour and water paste mixture to create patterns.

9. We think the children did a fabulous job creating their colourful patterns!

10. Year 1 created work inspired by the flags of different countries

11. 1M used weaving to make the flags and the children chose appropriate colours to match the colours of each country.

12. They also modelled some candle holders using clay.

14. Year 2 also created work inspired by the flags of different countries

15. Year 1 and 2’s topic this term has been Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. These two women travelled around the world, so we explored the flags from the different countries they came from and visited.

16. We reproduced and designed our own flags and used different media to make them.

17. 1 / 2 M and 2S explored symmetrical patterns and rotation of symmetry to design our flags. The symbols the children have recreated relate to our topic. We cut the symbols out of polystyrene tiles and then used these to print with.

18. AustraliaYear 3 / 4 created work inspired by Aboriginal Art

19. In Year 3 and 4 we have been learning about print making. We have looked at Australian Aboriginal art as the basis of our work. We have looked at video clips and pictures to give us inspiration for our art and we have also looked at different tools that we could use to make our prints with.

20. Aboriginal Art uses symbols to tell stories. We have looked at the different symbols used in different Aboriginal pictures and we have tried to create art that tells a story.

23. IndiaYear 5/6 created work inspired by Indian Art

24. In Year 5/6 we have focused on using drawing techniques. This has included looking at finding shadows and reflections and how to then use the pencil to create these different tones.

25. The children then started to use these drawing techniques within some additional based on India, carefully sketching their own hands, the children used this as a basis for creating their own Henna patterns.

27. Year 2 Art Club ‘Imaginary Creatures’

28. Some children in Year 2 have taken part in an art club this term. They have worked on a project that culminated in creating imaginary 3D creatures using mod-roc, a plaster covered bandage. Wow, were these creatures full of imagination!

29. The exhibition was well attended by many pupils and their families. Pupils took part in the exhibition quiz and worked hard to find the answers.
