Preparation • Update your resume! • Perfection - no misspellings, grammatical errors, or inaccurate information • Obtain a list of employers and plan! • Short list of employers to visit. • “bigger names” = longer lines; plan accordingly • Research organizations and prepare several questions to ask each recruiter. • Register with Career Services, Engineering Co-op, or Business Internship • Sell yourself fast -- One minute script

  4. Professionalism • Conservative • no unusual clothing or resumes • Be polite at all times • Confidence • Enthusiasm • Ability to think and speak on your feet -- and under pressure • Follow up • recruiter’s business card; ask when to follow-up • follow-up letters

Patience • Long lines • wear comfortable shoes • respect other candidate’s privacy when approaching the recruiter’s table • Make note after speaking with a recruiter • Remember you are trying to land an interview! • unlikely to be offered a job at Career Day • Receiving job offers is a long process • 49% receive interviews; 65% of those eventually receive offers • can take 3 to 4 months (or longer)

Ask questionsregarding your area of interest • What are common career paths with that organization? • What is the training program for new hires? • Are there other opportunities with the organization outside of what they typically recruit for? • What do they look for in a candidate? Take notes on what you learn!

They will also ask questionsExpect them to ask you about your interests and experiences with regard to the organization and the positions you are discussing • Summarize your academic and experiential background • Relate your background to the company and/or position • Remain employer-focused. Don’t just talk about what you want to get out of working for them • Some employers will schedule interviews for the following day

  8. Don’t forget! • Ask what you should do to apply for a position with the company and/or Give them a copy of your resume • Follow-up • get the representative’s name, title, address, and phone number • you may ask fortheir business card
