  1. Writing the S.E.E Paragraph (body paragraph) WS 1.1 Establish a controlling impression or conveys a clear and distinctive perspective on the subject and maintain a consistent tone and focus throughout the piece of writing.

  2. Agenda • *Objective: the students will write a paragraph with a clear distinctive perspective and maintain a consistent tone (about symbols) • T-charts to help • *I do, We do, You do paragraphs • Think-Pair-Share your independent S.E.E • Random selection to share out • Revise for diction and correct mechanics. • Identify types of sentences I used

  3. S.E.E Paragraph • Statement: Topic sentence that gives the reader an idea of the main point (The point you are trying to make). • Example: A sentence that supports your topic sentence. • Ex: facts, statistics, examples, etc. • Explanation: Explain the importance of your evidence and explain how the evidence helps make your point.

  4. S.E.E Paragraph Sample (Statement) My roommate refuses to see the overflowing garbage. (Examples) Even if I place the can in the middle of the kitchen, she steps over it as she moves to the dining room. (a specific detail) I've even seen her push the garbage down and gingerly place a used paper plate right on top, taking great care that it is nicely balanced. (even more specific) (Explanation) Of course, I usually just give up and take the can down the stairs and out to the smelly dumpster behind the old mattresses. Aside from throwing the garbage can at her and having a fight, I don't know what else to do.

  5. S.E.E cont… • Diction (word choice) • Identify any words that are too simplistic. Then, provide an alternative word that is more precise. • Example: There are many reasons a person may not report a crime. • Revision: There are several reasons a bystander may not report a crime.
