  1. AutumnMemoirs Writing Project Challenge Language Arts

  2. Thoughts for your memoir • Memories: early, earlier, and recent • What are my earliest memories? • How far back can I remember? • What are the most important events that have happened to me in my life so far? • What have I seen that I can’t forget? • What’s something that happened to me at (school, home, away) that I can’t forget?

  3. More thoughts • What a time or place that I was perfectly/totally happy, sad, lost, confused? • What a time with a parent/grandparent /friend/sibling that I’ll never forget? • Can I remember a time when I learned to do something? • Can I remember a time when I learned a lesson I will never forget?

  4. Pick a topic Choose a topic that contains enough content to create a memorable piece of writing. Talk to those who remember this time in your life to gather details. Create a web Make the web as detailed as possible so that when you begin to write, this web is your stash of ideas, names, events, etc… Look at old photos and memorabilia to jog your memory. Steps

  5. What to put in your web • Descriptions of people • Descriptions of places • A list of the events in order • A description of any lesson learned • Description of how you or others felt at different times • A description of the conflict and resolution

  6. Revising the Web • Bring the web to class to identify these items: • What you may have left out • What additional information you need to research • What questions a reader might have if he or she read your memoir
