  1. USB_DAQ (PGA309EVM) for Real Sensor Application Iven Xu May. 20th, 2013 iven-xu@ti.com

  2. Agenda • 1. Digital Sensor Emulator (PGA309 onboard sensor emulator) • The outputs of onboard sensor emulator are controlled by sensor emulator file – like “nonlin2.csv” file (based on the characteristic of real sensor) • 2. Sensor Emulator Board (External sensor emulator board) • The outputs of external sensor emulator board are controlled by a special spreadsheet – like “Generate_Sim_Values.xls”/SBOC065A (also based on the characteristic of real sensor) • 3. Real sensor application • Need oven and … • Reference: • Sensor-Emulator-EVM system Reference Guide (SBOA102A) • PGA309 Quick Start (SBOA103C) • PGA309-Programmable Sensor Signal Conditioner • PGA309EVM-USB User’s Guide (SBOA084A) • SBOC065A (http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sboc065a)

  3. Digital Sensor Emulator • 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode • 1.2) 3-wire Vout mode • 1.3) Iout mode (must be used with 4-wire)

  4. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode (Use PGA309EVM): • PGA309 EVM Configuration This is for 4-wire voltage output mode hardware configuration; We need to create a “.csv” file – like nonlin2.csv. That file is based on the characteristic of real sensor -such as offset, mid/full scale, drift; and temperature sensor – Temp Sensor Vout vs. temp. Sensor output Vex (provide for bridge sensor) Temp Sensor output

  5. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode (Use PGA309EVM): • USB_DAQ Board Default Configuration

  6. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode:software configuration Windows 7 Attention Default GUI Interface

  7. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: create model file

  8. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: Enter Model Name/….

  9. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: How to create the new nonlin2.csv file • Use PGA309 software to create the onboard sensor emulator file (.csv). • For more detailed info, pls read the PGA309EVM-USB User’s Guide.pdf (SBOU084A) P47-P51.

  14. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: How to create the Pre Cal file

  15. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: How to create the Pre Cal file

  16. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: How to create the Pre Cal file

  17. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: How to create the Pre Cal file

  18. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: How to create the Pre Cal file

  19. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: Re-select the model file before the calibration

  20. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode:

  21. 1.1) 4-wire Vout mode: calibration

  22. 1.2) 3-wire voltage output mode: • Only different is “JMP7,JMP8” in hardware configuration.

  23. Make sure the “GND” of 24V power supply is float. Do not connect with GND of +-15V power supply. 1.3) Iout mode: • USB DAQ Configuration

  24. 1.3) Iout mode (Use PGA309EVM): • PGA309 EVM Configuration * When we want to use current output mode of XTR117: * we should make sure the configuration of PGA309 is in 4-wire voltage output mode; * Because in 3-wire voltage output mode of PGA309, we should turn on/off the Vs of PGA309. But in 3-wire mode, the one-wire and Vout is connect in one junction, so we cannot use one-wire to control the Vs (turn on/off). * conclusion: we should use 4-wire voltage output for current output. Sensor output 24 Vex (provide for bridge sensor) Temp Sensor output

  25. 1.3) Iout mode: Use the csv file we created in the last step, So we can select that file for here.

  26. 1.3) Iout mode:

  27. 1.3) Iout mode: calibration

  28. 2) External Sensor Emulator Board • 2.1) 4-wire Vout mode • 2.2) 3-wire Vout mode • 2.3) Iout mode (must be used with 4-wire)

  29. 2.1) 4-wire Vout mode: • Hardware and pre-cal file are the same as 4-wire Vout mode in last step; • In this situation, we never use csv file. So do not select sensor emulator file, but we adjust the outputs of external sensor emulator board. • The outputs of sensor emulator board is based on the special spreadsheet: • http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sboc065a • In this spreadsheet, we need to set the offset/span/drift/sensor range…. It will generate the different output. • Also you can reference Sensor Emulator Board User’s Guide (SBOA102A) We need to adjust the output of sensor emulator board following the below flow:

  30. 2.1) 4-wire Vout mode: calibration

  31. 2.1) 4-wire Vout mode: calibration • Adjust the pressure and temperature following the prompt window.

  32. 2.1) 4-wire Vout mode: calibration (continue) • Adjust the pressure and temperature following the prompt window.

  33. 2.2) 3-wire Vout mode: • Hardware and pre-cal file are the same as 3-wire Vout mode in last step; • In this situation, we never use csv file. • Also you can reference Sensor Emulator Board User’s Guide (SBOA102A) • We need to adjust the output of sensor emulator board following the below flow: it is the same as 4-wire Vout mod.

  34. 2.3) Iout mode: • Hardware and pre-cal file are the same as Iout mode in last step; • In this situation, we never use csv file. • Also you can reference Sensor Emulator Board User’s Guide (SBOA102A) We need to adjust the output of sensor emulator board following the below flow: it is the same as 4-wire Vout mod.

  35. 3) Real Sensor Application • 3.1) 4-wire Vout mode • 3.2) 3-wire Vout mode • 3.3) Iout mode (must be used with 4-wire)

  36. 3.1) Take 4-wire for example • Hardware and pre-cal file is the same as in Digital sensor emulator and External sensor emulator board. • Never use the sensor emulator file. • Put the real sensor in the oven, adjust the temperature and pressure following with the prompt window, like the below operation: • It will need much more time to finish the calibartion.

  37. 3.1) Take 4-wire for example

  38. 3.1) Take 4-wire for example • Adjust the pressure and temperature following the prompt window.

  39. 3.1) Take 4-wire for example • Adjust the pressure and temperature following the prompt window.
