  6. What purpose does ECSA fulfil ? • The purpose of the ECSA is to.......... promote the health, and safety interests of citizens & the environment........... in relation to work by the engineering professionals. • Engineering Professions Act (No. 46 of 2000)

ECSA’s Functions: Mandatory • Accreditation of engineering programmes; (b) Registration of professionals and candidates; (c)Regulation of engineering practice • Managing a Code of Conduct; • Managing complaints & discipline; • Managing continual professional development; • Identification of Engineering Work (IDoEW); (d)Provide audited financial reports.

  8. ECSA’s Functions: Discretionary (a) Take measures to protect public health and safety; (b) Conduct research; (c) Improve standards of services delivered by registered persons; (d) Uphold the integrity and dignity of the profession;

ECSA’s functions: Discretionary (e) Create awareness of the need to protect the environment; • Recognise and interact with Voluntary Associations; (g) Advise the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) & Minister of Public Works or any other minister on matters relating to the engineering profession; and • Provide strategic services to serve and develop the engineering profession and the nation.
