  1. SURPRISED BY THE VOICE OF GOD Acts 2:17-18 Pastor Philip Huan

  2. [21] She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” [22] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: [23] “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)

  3. God’s “nearness” to us causes us to experience & encounter His voice. (Acts 2:17a, Matthew 1:23)

  4. 1. You do not need great knowledge or maturity to hear God's voice (sons & daughters)

  5. 2. You do not need lots of life experience to hear God's voice (young men)

  6. 3. You do not need to be energetic and in your prime to hear God's voice (old men)

  7. A person who grows in hearing God is one who desires to follow and serve God (Acts 2:18)

  8. [24] But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understand comes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all, [25] and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!” (1 Corinthians 14:24-25) [3] But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. (1 Corinthian 14:3)

  9. DEFINITIONS & GUIDELINES Prophecy is sharing a “report” from the Holy Spirit that has potential to encourage, strengthen and comfort supernaturally. It should be biblical and generally “positive”, and shared in a way & time prescribed by leaders in the church.

  10. [32] The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. [33] For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. (1 Corinthians 14:32-33)
