What Happens? What is it? • Atherosclerosis is a slow complex disease that typically starts during childhood and often accumulates when people grow older. • The hardening and narrowing of the artery. • In some people it advances rapidly even in older decades. • Scientist think that in begins with damage to the innermost layer of the artery called “Endothelium”
What are the signs &nd Symptoms • There are usually not any signs or symptoms until middle or older age. • When the narrowing of the artery becomes severe the blood flow is blocked and can cause pain. Blockage can rupture causing blood clots.
Who Gets it? • This disease can affect people of any age but it usually does not threat until people reach their forties or fifties.
Ways To Prevent It and Treat it! • Control your weight • Healthy diet( low fat) • Regular physical activity • Low salt diet • No Smoking or quit smoking • Control stress • Bypass Surgery
