How do we define the personality traits of a hero? • Determination: "The difference between the impossible and possible lies in a man's determination." ~ Tommy Lasorda • Hero: a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal:

How is Tim Tebow different than the average football player? • Led students in Bible studies every week at the University of Florida • Preached in prisons, schools and hospitals • “When Tebow put John 3:16 in his eye black during a University of Florida game, he set off 92 million Google searches for the Scripture reference” (Meacham 42). • “Platform is a big word with Tebow: it comes up again and again in his public remarks and in his memoir Through My Eyes” (Meacham 41).

What is Tim Tebow's testimony? • Tim Tebow was only 6 years old when he was worried about going to Hell. “Tim Tebow has always wanted two things: to be right with Jesus in heaven and to lead a football team to glory on the field” (Meacham 40). • He first went to his father who was a missionary to tell him about his decision to accept Jesus into his heart, but his father’s hard questions about the Gospel made him go to his mother. Tim and his mother prayed together when he told her he was ready to be saved.

How did Tim Tebow's childhood influence his outlook on life? • Ever since Tim Tebow was a little boy, he was always competitive, so was the rest of his family including his two older sisters and two older brothers (Tebow 7). • All five of them always played fair and never let anyone else win just because they were younger or weaker. Every time Tim won against his siblings, he earned it. I think this influenced the way he is today so he competes for everything and never backs down. He wanted to be just like his brothers Robby and Peter growing up and most of his memories revolved around sports (Tebow 8). • Since he looked up to his competitive brothers, he grew up to be extremely competitive. • He was homeschooled • Had to memorize scripture before he could do fun activities (Meacham 40) • At the age of 5, when everyone else was hitting the baseball off the tee, Tim was hitting homeruns, without the tee. He finished second in the league that year and that was the last time he wanted to finish second, from here on out he would strive for number one.

  6. 10. Why did the NCAA ban eye black “messages”? • Wore black eye paint with writing every game • Reggie Bush used to write the numbers “619” on his eye paint representing his hometown San Diego. No one gave him a hard time • Tim Tebow wrote Bible scriptures on his black eye paint and then all of a sudden there are all these complaints. • The NCAA ended up banning any player from writing anything on his eye black (Kaufmann). • Current NCAA rule: “Requires all players who wear “eye black” to use solid black with no words, logos, numbers, or other symbols” (Kaufmann). – unofficially referred to “The Tebow Rule” (Tim Tebow Rules). • “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” – John 3:16 • Some people believe putting the scripture on his eye black is forcing his beliefs on people, but he’s not. People don’t have to have the same beliefs as Tim Tebow. • First Amendment of the United States Constitution says: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press” (Kaufmann). • ^ violating his first amendment rights

  7. 11. How was Tim Tebow's birth a miracle? • Tim Tebow’s father was a missionary who preached in many places like America and the Philippines. His father once prayed, “Father, if You want another preacher in this world, You give him to me. You give me Timmy, and I will raise him to be a preacher” (Tebow 4). • The name Timothy means “honoring God” (Tebow 5). • Months later, Tim Tebow’s mother realized she was pregnant and it was an extremely difficult pregnancy from the start since the placenta was barely attached. Many doctors told her that her son’s life and her own life were at risk. The only way to not be at risk would be to get an abortion but they were strongly against that. Tim Tebow’s mother trusted in God throughout her whole pregnancy and began to feel better towards the end of her pregnancy. When Tim Tebow was born on August 14, 1987, the doctors told them, “Mr.Tebow, your child is a miracle baby. I can’t explain how it happened, but despite all odds, he beat them” (Tebow 6). • Tim’s first week in the world was spent in the hospital since he began losing weight instead of gaining weight. His family asked their friends to pray that he would grow big and strong (Tebow 7).

How do people look up to Tim Tebow? • 4 Long Island students got suspended for “Tebowing” – Riverhead High School • One day suspension • 40 other students joined them and the school claimed it was a safety hazard • Tebowing – “get down on one knee and start praying even if everyone around you is doing something completely different” (Meacham 42). • Twin brothers, Tyler and Connor Carroll had been told by school officials not to mimic the signature move (Cergol).
