  1. Prime Healthcare’s Humanitarian Aid to India In May 2021, a second surge of the COVD-19 pandemic gripped the Indian sub-continent, and a staggering 21 million people were tested positive for the virus. The new ‘delta variant’ of the SARS – CoV-2 virus, 30% more infectious than its 2019 predecessor, spread like wildfire. The death toll quickly soared past 50000+ leading to a humanitarian crisis threatening to take a turn for the worse. The Indian healthcare system was quickly overburdened, resulting in a severe shortage of hospital beds and oxygen cylinders. Citizens across India were caught in the pandemic's harsh and devastating effects, and their family members were left clamouring for help on the street. It was a crisis like nothing else the country had seen before. Hospitals desperately needed an uninterrupted supply of testing kits, medical devices, and oxygen cylinders. Relief responses began to pour in from countries worldwide to help the Indian government stabilize the situation. Prime Healthcare was a significant part of this effort to mobilize and deliver humanitarian aid to the affected areas in India. “We are sending the most critically needed and life-saving resources such as oxygen concentrators,” Dr. Prem Reddy MD, the founder, and chairman of Prime Healthcare, said, reiterating his commitment to resolving the crisis. Walking the Talk Prime Healthcare was founded by Dr. Prem Reddy in 2001 and has expanded into one of the largest health systems in the United States, with 46 hospitals in 14 states. It is an award-winning health system delivering care to over 2.6 million patients annually. It’s driven by a sizable workforce comprising 50000 employees and Dr. Prem Reddy’s vision, ‘Saving Hospitals and Saving Lives’. Staying true to its primary core value, Prime Healthcare dispatched vital medical equipment such as ventilators, BiPAP machines, and oxygen concentrators to care for thousands of patients. Prime Healthcare’s tireless battle with the pandemic as a national health system taught valuable lessons in population health management to its team of clinicians. They leveraged this experience effectively to go above and beyond their call of duty to save lives beyond their geographical border. Overcoming the Crisis Tactful responses from health systems worldwide, like Prime Healthcare's, have helped stabilize the region, resuming a sense of normality. Much of this can be attributed to the effective triaging of patients and the use of improved medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators in first response protocols to treat hospitalized patients. Prime Healthcare's efficient coordination with Congressman Brad Sherman, Congressman Ro Khanna, US officials, and the Indian government ensured medical equipment and supplies distribution to the most affected areas.
