  1. A Dental Guide to Root Canal Treatment Introduction: Root canal treatment (also called endodontic treatment) is needed when the pulp inside your tooth becomes inflamed or infected and starts to die. When the nerve in your tooth dies, it means that you have an infection. If this infection isn’t treated, it can spread to other parts of your body and cause serious health problems. It’s important to deal with the infection as soon as possible so that these problems don’t occur. Root canal treatment uses medication and/or a root

  2. canal filling to prevent the pulp from dying and remove any bacteria from inside the tooth’s root canal system. Step 1: Identify the Problem Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infections that occur in the tissues at the centre of the tooth, known as the pulp. There are several reasons why this procedure may be needed. The most common is due to bacteria that enter the tooth and irritates the nerve inside it (root canal infection). The second reason could be an injury like breaking or chipping a tooth which damages it. Root canal treatments have many benefits for patients, such as reduced sensitivity to hot and cold foods or drinks. It can also eliminate pain from trauma like fracturing teeth, wisdom teeth removal, impacted teeth, and sharp edges from poorly fitting fillings or crowns. A Root canal treatment involves making an opening into the damaged area with special drills to remove any diseased material left behind by bacteria so it doesn't keep growing and cause more problems later on. Then an antibiotic medicine is applied which helps prevent further infection while antibiotics work their way through your system to kill existing germs (bacteria) that cause the problem in the first place Step 2: Consult Your Dentist There are three general types of pain that can occur during a root canal: prolonged pain (more than 12 hours), moderate to severe pain, and mild-to-moderate pain. Consult your root canal specialist if you experience prolonged pain or moderate-to-severe pain. If you experience mild-to-moderate dental discomfort, use oral analgesics to relieve your discomfort. Step 3: Injections Used In order to insert a narrow canal, the root canal specialist may need to use an injection to numb the area. Once this injection is complete, they will place a thin probe into the tooth and move it around until they find out which direction the nerve runs. Once they know that, they will continue in that direction and go as deep as possible without hitting any other nerves. The root canal specialist will then remove some of the nerve tissue with files or other instruments that are specially designed for this procedure. Step 4: Diagnosis After the cleaning and shaping of the tooth, your Root canal specialist will check to see if any decay is present. Next, they will need to identify any nerve damage in order for treatment plans can be determined. In some cases, such as when there is heavy decay, a root canal specialist may recommend root canal treatment before you even have time for a filling. They can also use x-rays and photographs of the teeth taken at different angles to determine the depth of the infection. Step 5: The Procedure Root canal treatment is usually done in two stages. In the first stage, a local anaesthetic numbs the tooth, and a small opening is drilled into the tooth. Root canal specialists then use a special instrument called an endodontic file to clean out the inside of the tooth, which can remove 2

  3. infection or damage caused by decay. The filling that seals off this opening may be temporary or permanent. If it’s just a matter of cleaning out the root canal, then the dentist will seal up the space with material like gutta-percha (a natural rubber substance) or stainless steel. If there’s extensive damage to the tooth that has gone beyond just cleaning out the root canal, then they might place an artificial crown over it instead. Step 6: Aftercare and Recovery Aftercare for root canal treatment is just as important as the procedure itself. Keeping your tooth dry for 24 hours and brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush will decrease inflammation, lessen sensitivity, and help protect the tooth from bacteria. After 12 weeks of this regimen, you can resume regular oral hygiene habits; make sure to brush at least twice per day with fluoride-containing toothpaste, floss regularly, and visit your Root Canal specialist in Coimbatore every six months for an examination. 3
