  2. Background on Shakespeare William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright. He is frequently called England's national poet and the “bard of Avon”. His plays have been translated into every major living language and preformed many more times than any other playwright. At the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway and they had three children.   3. Romeo and Juliet in Art Romeo and Juliet was quite a hit with painters. They painted scenes of the play in many different ways.   5. Modern Adaptations A modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is the film produced by Baz Luhrmann. He was the same person who produced Moulin Rouge. He produced a version of Romeo and Juliet that people my age can understand. I think it is also easier to follow because it is put into terms that I can understand better. They both have forbidden love for Romeo and Juliet it is because of a family feud and for Edward and Bella it is because Edward is a vampire.
