Narvaez Expedition Royal expedition to occupy Gulf of Mexico led by Panfilo Narvaez Lost half of its men on trip to western Florida Narvaez split the land and sea units and started up the coast Men were starving by Apalachee Bay, but thought allies were nearby Narvaez built rafts in hopes to sail to Mexico, but most were lost on the way Rafts shipwrecked, with less than 10 men remaining

  6. Most Europeans viewed the Native Americans as savages based on settlement stories they heard, and had no real experiences or even encounters with the indians. Alvar Nunez had a different view because he lived with the American indians for years and took the time to understand their culture and their beliefs.
