Chart? • Federal– Governor General, PM, Cabinet, Ministers, Parliament, Senate, House of Commons • Provincial– Lieutenant Governor, Premier, Cabinet, Ministers, Municipal, Legislative Assembly 2. Why unite? 4 points • - fear of American expansion, could defend better if united • - need to expand trading markets for goods. • - French – speaking citizens believed their culture would survive better in Canada • - Western expansion

  3. Review 3. Charlottetown Conference • - Sept 1, 1864 discuss possibility of Union • - maritime fears calmed “representation by population” • - power divided between federal and provincial. 4. Quebec Conference • - Oct 1864 hammered out blueprint for Confederation 5. BNA act • - July 1, 1867
