  1. Akhilesh Srivastava - Architect of Modern Indian Highways The operations division of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the leadership of its Chief General Manager (CGM), Akhilesh Srivastava, has initiated the construction of the Wayside Amenities (WSA) project with four key objectives: 1. To provide advanced and hygienic facilities to motorists commuting on national highways 2. To provide employment opportunities to native residents of regions around highways 3. To add reality value to the barren lands abutting national highways 4. To eliminate road accidents and fatality on national highways Under this project, the NHAI is going to provide highway commuters with different facilities in a three-structure amenity models, namely, Highway Nest (Mini), Highway Nest, and Highway Village. Highway Nest (Mini) These are small outlets that serve packaged food to commuters and provide them with facilities like restrooms, drinking water kiosks, and ATMs at Toll plazas. A few of the Nests (Mini) are already functional while several others are being constructed at Toll plazas all over India. Highway Nest To provide commuters with adequate hospitality services, the NHAI is building Highway Nests across the National Highway network. To supplement this work, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has invited farmers and private players to get involved in the megaproject. Each Highway Nest will be equipped with facilities including fuel stations, hotels, dhabas, vehicle garage, village haats, and refreshments. Farmers have been asked to share their agricultural lands abutting national highways for development. The landowners won’t have to sell their lands to the government. Highway Village

  2. Both the Highway Village and Highway Nest are similar, except for the size of their enclosures. Highway Village will be developed on a minimum of five acres of land, while the Highway Nest will occupy a maximum of five acres of land. CGM Mr Akhilesh Srivastava has been at the forefront of design and implementation of the projects. The NHAI is in the process of acquiring lands and also has called bids for private participation. Some of the facilities were already started and a few are in construction stages. Through this project, residents will be getting larger employment and business opportunities. Above all, the megaproject can provide relief and refreshment to commuters. The megaproject is first of its kind, and the largest Public Private Partnership (PPP) project in the highways sector.
