Taking images and making videos in complete darkness is not possible because the results are not quite as such desired. On the other hand, in dim light conditions, it works the best. • Can it record sound or has a detachable microphone? -No, it cannot record sound, nor it has any detachable microphone. You cannot record any kind sounds while recording the videos. But you can take photos effectively.

It works great he is solid black and I can quickly spot him in the dark with no problem. Works great. • A bit grainy with low resolution. But it does an amazing job of letting you see in dark unlit alleys and into deep shadows. The picture taking is a nice feature. Better if used in total darkness. Great little night vision camera for the money. I am a grave yard shift armed security guard in a bad section of town, it helps keep me safe. I see people before they see me. I use it often.
