  1. Bering Strait- a narrow stretch of water that separates Asia from North American

  2. Four Corners- place where four states-New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah come together; home of the Anasazi people

  3. Mound Builders- group of three groups of American Indians: the Adena, Hopewell, and Mississippians that built thousands of mounds, in many different shapes

  4. Mesa Verde- the Anasazi community in present-day Colorado

  5. Nampeyo- a Pueblo woman who found a way to re-create the ancient way of making pottery

  6. Anasazi- an early farming group that were located in the Four Corners, they were also known as the “Cliff Dwellers”

  7. Inuit- they traveled from Asia to North America about 2,500 years ago. They developed the kayak.

  8. Maya- settled in present-day Mexico about 3,000 years ago. They specialized in basket weaving, stone carving, astronomy, math and building.

  9. Valley of Mexico- region in central Mexico, location of the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan

  10. Tenochtitlan- capital of the Aztec Empire in the Valley of Mexico, on the site of present-day Mexico City

  11. Aztecs- a group of wandering people that settled in the Valley of Mexico.

  12. Incas- their empire developed in the Andes Mountains when they conquered the area around the city of Cuzco.
