  3. McDonald’s Menu….I’m Lovin It!! • Double Cheeseburger: 3.99AED • Big Mac Value Meal: 4.79AED • Chicken McNuggets Meal: 3.80AED • Small Drink: 0.99AED • McFlurry: 1.97AED • Salad: 4.80AED • 2 Cheeseburger Meal: 3.70AED • Ice Cream Cone: .87AED Photo courtesy of diplomat-tourism.com

  4. Order Up!We can order decimals, in this case prices, from least to greatest (ascending order)or we can order from greatest to least (descending order). .87, .99, 1.97, 3.70, 3.80, 3.99, 4.79, 4.80 ascending descending 4.80, 4.79, 3.99, 3.80, 3.70, 1.97, .99, .87

  5. What Do I Mean Compare Decimals? • When we compare we use terms such as: • Less than < • Greater than > • Equal to = • Comparing decimals is similar to comparing whole numbers. 45 < 47 150 > 105 0.55 = 0.55000 • When we compare decimals we use place value or a number line. 6. Minecraft High Scores • Compare Khalid’s score with Saleh’s score. • Line Up Decimal Points • Khalid: 42.1 • Saleh: 42.5 • Start at the left and find the first place where the digits differ. Compare the digits • 1 < 5 • 42.1 < 42.5 • This means Khalid’s score was less than Saleh’s score.

  7. Let’s Try Using A Number Line 42.0 42.1 42.5 Numbers to the right are greater than numbers to the left. Since 42.5 is to the right of 42.1 we have: 42.5 > 42.1

  8. Adding Terminal Zeros • This means placing a zero to the right of the last digit in a decimal. • 0.6 0.60 • Although we added a zero, the value of the decimal did not change!! Note: Adding terminal zeros is useful when ordering a group of decimals. Photo courtesy of diplomat-tourism.com

  9. = 0.60 0.6

  10. 15, 14.95, 15.8, 15.01 • First, line up decimal points. • Next, add terminal zeros so that each number has the same number of decimal places 15 14.95 15.8 15.01

  11. Independent Practice • Place these decimals in ascending order: • 35.06, 35.7, 35.5, 35.849 • 5.06, 5.7, 5.52, 5.89 • 135.27, 135.254, 135.849, 135.26 Photo courtesy of footage.shutterstock.com
