  1. Pilates Instructor Training: Tips for New Pilates Teachers For people who love Pilates, the next step may be to take your passion a step further and considering becoming a trained instructor so you can share your love of Pilates with others. If you’ve already taken the step of starting your Pilates instructor course, you’re well on your way beginning a rewarding and dynamic career1 Today, we’ll be sharing our top tips for instructors about to embark on their Pilates careers. Keep up with your practice When you get caught up in the excitement of becoming a Pilates instructor yourself and teaching your own classes, it’s easy to let your own practice drop off. However, it’s so important that you keep on going along to your own Pilates classes as a student and continuing to develop your personal Pilates journey. This not only allows you be introduced to new teaching techniques and exercises, it also means you have the opportunity to see a class from a student’s perspective. Have faith in your ability

  2. Starting out running your own Pilates classes can be such an inspiring experience but it can also feel a little overwhelming when you’re teaching classes for the first time. If you’re lacking in confidence, think back to your training and remember that you have the skills to teach effectively and safely. Remember not to overcompensate by incorporating new and complex exercises in your early classes – focus on providing a good workout using proven class structures. Your ability to improvise will develop as your experience grows. Develop client relationships Teaching Pilates isn’t just about showing up and taking your clients through their exercises –it’s also about developing relationships and walking alongside your class members during their health and wellness journey. Connecting with your class not only enhances the experience for them, it also makes it more enjoyable for you as you get to know your regulars. From a practical perspective, open communication also means your clients will be comfortable disclosing any issues or asking questions along the way about their Pilates practice. Find a mentor When it comes to teaching Pilates, there’s always something new to learn and one of the best ways to improve your teaching practice is to find an experienced mentor. You’ll most likely develop a relationship with your instructors during your Pilates teacher training so don’t be shy about nurturing that relationship on an ongoing basis – many experienced instructors are more than happy to spread their knowledge. You’ll learn invaluable information about aspects of teaching such as keeping your classes interesting, catering to all levels and the right amount of verbal cues from your mentor.
