Motivation • Creation of an Expert group for international collaboration on microdata • Goal: facilitate National Statistical Offices working together on practical steps to advance cross-border access to and analysis of microdata • OECD committee on Statistics (CSTAT) will provide the co-operative international leadership for strategic process development

  3. Challenges • Increasing coordination and communication between institutes to adopt best practices and common understanding • Establishing procedures for efficient integrated cross-boarder access to microdata • Conducting practical country experiment • Advising and making recommendations to Chief Statisticians

  4. First streams of work • Principles for risk assessment • Exhaustive review of administrative requirements for accessing microdata, including metadata • Exhaustive review of the legal framework that shapes microdata dissemination in OECD countries • Creation of a safe centre inside the OECD

  5. First achievements • OECD microdata “passport” for accessing Australian and Canadian PIAAC surveys • Remote access facility for Labour Force Survey (in progress)
