Baroque architecture is characterized by: • In churches: broader naves and oval forms • Dramatic use of light; strong light-and-shade contrast (chiaroscuro effects) • Rich use of colour and ornaments or figures made of wood, plaster, marble... • The interior painted by illusory effects like trompe l’oeil • Trompe l’oeil: art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that objects appear in three dimensions.
