Grades in Chemistry • Point System • Final grade tabulated by added together all points earned and dividing by total possible points.
Grades in Chemistry Tests: • There will be several tests each marking period that will be announced in advance. • Test Outlines will be given out • All assigned textbook chapters should be read to help prepare for exams • Study with a friend if possible • Know all vocabulary terms down cold!
Grades in Chemistry Quizzes: • Before each exam there will be several quizzes of 10-30 points. • No “pop” quizzes will be given • Review your notes each night to help prepare and answer all homework questions in packets • Try rewriting your notes as you review to help you take ownership of the material.
Grades in Chemistry Homework: • Read Textbook Chapters • Do all pages of Homework Packets • (10 points per test) • Completed packets are due in class at the beginning of the period on test days. You must show work on math problems • Quarterly Projects: due last day of marking period • “Chem-Mystery” Project (35 pts) • Creative Chemistry Project
Grades in Chemistry Labs: • Each lab report is worth 10 points • Late labs will be graded as a zero • Labs are due the following lab day “F” days • All labs must be completed in order to take Chemistry Regents Exam in June • Make sure to get lab form signed! • Use proper lab format (see website) • All labs must be typed unless otherwise noted.
Grades in Chemistry • Extra Credit • There is no extra credit.
A Note on Plagerism • If you are found copying a test, quiz homework or lab report from another student you both will receive zeros and you parents will be notified. • So ummm….don’t do it.
Rules for Success • Be ON TIME • Notebooks open and ready when the bell rings • Cell phone out of sight before class begins • Raise your hand and participate in class • Listen carefully and take notes • Keep notes and handouts neat and organized
A Little Respect Respect your Classmates • Listen when others are talking • Respect everyone’s right to learn by not being disruptive • Be positive and encourage classmates (no put downs) • Help others learn on their own (giving answers does not help!) Respect Yourself (and your ability to learn!) • Always do your best • Be safe during experiments and activities • Remove distractions such as your cell phone or other electronic devices
