  2. Use case 1: Flow Binding Revocation • A MN installs a flow binding in a HA • The HA revokes the flow binding later on because of accounting, maintenance and other reasons.

  3. Use case 2: Inter-Interface Flow Movement • A mobile node with dual radio connects to the two networks. e.g. WLAN and UMTS. • The operator needs to move traffic from one network to another because of , e.g., restarting access routers. • From the MN perspective, the MN is indicated to move ALL FLOWS from one interface to another.

  4. Use case 3: Exceeding traffic quota • The 3G operator offers a mobile broadband service with a flat rate subscription limited to 5G Byte per month. • Once the quota is reached the service is downgraded to 64 K bit per second. • The operator can indicate this to the user by sending modified flow descriptors to the user as a proposal to change access for an ongoing session

  5. Use case 4: Real-time off-load • The 3G operator may want to move traffic flows from the 3G access to another access due to increased traffic load in the 3G access network and a need to ensure that bandwidth is available for prioritized services. • Already established sessions are moved by the home agent by sending down an updated flow descriptor to the mobile node.

  6. Solution • Two new messages are defined, that is, Flow Binding Indication (FBI),Flow Binding Acknowledgement (FBA). • These messages are used for flow binding operation initiated from a home agent.

  7. Summary of current status • http://www.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/mext/current/msg03704.html Marcelo said “people didn't find any problem with case 1 … for the scenario 2, people didn't find a clear use case, so more disucussion is needed” • Use case 3 and 4 are added since last IETF meeting.

  8. Comments? • Next Step? • Thank you!!!
