Unfortunate Truths About Teen Suicide • Approximately 4,400 teens die each year • Its rates has tripled since 1960 and is the third leading cause of death • Teen males attempt suicide due to a lifetime history of sexual assault • Teen females who have been physically abused by a boyfriend are 60% more likely to attempt suicide than those who have not.

  3. Causes of Teen Suicide • The top causes of death are: • Stress • Self-doubt • Divorce • Moving • Depression • Cyberbullying

  4. Signs of Attempt Suicide • Change in eating and sleeping habits • Anti-sociality • Violent actions • Drug and alcohol use • Personality change • Loss of interest in activities

Teen Suicide and Cyberbullying • Cyberbullying was strongly related suicidal ideation in comparison with traditional bullying • 22% of frequent perpetrators only, 29% of frequent victims only, and 38% of frequent bully-victims reported suicidal thinking or a suicide attempt during the past year.

Teen Suicide and Cyberbullying cont. • Words Hurt • Hateful text messages , online rumors, and humiliating videos are taking place of black eyes and bloody noses. • Bullies are Cowards • Intimidators no longer have to face the emotional distress they cause. Many social media barriers that bullies hide behind are fortified with anonymous facades.
