Mixing Rules Example FSM Each FSS will ideally be made up of FSMs of the same CG. If not, apply Mixing Rules. 3m 7m Same CG within FSM Field Storage Site (made up of FSMs) Usually a minimum distance of about 50 meters
Ammunition Requiring Separate Storage • White Phosphorous (WP) • Missiles in a propulsive state • Damaged ammunition • Unknown condition or unknown origin • Awaiting destruction or demilitarization • Constrained or banned for use • Deteriorated and become hazardous
Types of Quantity Distance • Inside Quantity Distance (IQD) • Outside Quantity Distance (OQD)
Inside Quantity Distances – Between Field Storage Sites IQD between FSS’s. For example if one FSS is HD 1.1, this must be a minimum of 200m if un-traversed, or 100m if traversed
Inside Quantity Distances – Other Factors • Ammunition of HD 1.4S – stored in isolation without regard for safety distances • 300m minimum distance from recovered ammunition (if uninspected), unserviceable stocks, and stock awaiting disposal • 100m minimum distance from areas storing packing material
IQDs - Temporary Storage Areas • Temporary Storage Areas should always be planned and operated by ammunition specialists, as a formal risk management process is necessary as part of the planning process for the establishment of safe separation distances.
