Who my Explorer Is • Pere Jacques Marquette – born 1637 death 1675 in Ludington, Michigan. • He was born in laon France. • He was a son of a seigneur of laon France. • In 1654 he attended Jesuit novatiane at school. • He was called father because he was a priest. • When he was 17 he moved to Nancy France

  3. What My Explorer Did • He was a principal chief. • He was a priest. • He found the Mississippi river. • He traveled along Lake Michigan. • He was going on a mission to the Mississippi river. • He was a leader. • He learned six Indian languages.

  4. When my person Explored • He explored with Louis Jolliet in 1673 toward the Fox River. • He started exploring when he was 29 at Quebec in 1666. • In 1668 he went to find Sault St. Marie. • In 1673 he reached the Wisconsin River.

  5. Where The Person Explored Pere Jacques Marquette explored in U.P. Also he explored Sault Ste. Marie. He was trying to find the Northwest Passage which is the Mississippi River which he found. He explored the Straits of Mackinac. Finally, he explored in the Illinois River.

  6. How He Got Along with Native Americans • He did get along with Native Americans. • Pere learned their language very well. • He did not try to convert with the Indians. • He was about to get to the mouth of Arkansas but turned around because of hostile Native Americans and Spanish Explorers.

  7. Why My Explorer Went Exploring • He went to explore new land. • He also looked for the north west passage. • The North West Passage is the missipissi river. • He found the North West Passage.
