  1. Welcome back Simonds’ families! The Simonds Parent Advisory Council welcomes you back for the new school year. On behalf of the PAC, we would also like to extend a warm welcome to those families new to Simonds. Simonds parents are unparalleled in their enthusiasm and participation and we look forward to working with you to make this a productive and exciting year for the Simonds community!

  2. What is PAC? PAC – Parent Advisory Council, is totally voluntarily run by parents of the school and operates to a drawn up constitution. Every parent or guardian of a student enrolled is automatically a member of the PAC and can vote on issues that come up. The PAC has an elected executive and numerous committees, who report to the rest of the parents. You do not need to attend PAC meetings to volunteer. PAC’s functions include: · Helping parents navigate school issues, · Facilitating communication between the parents and staff or with outside organizations, · Organizing school events and fund raising functions, · Contributing funding (to supplement that provided by the School Board) to allow for as rounded an education program as possible for our children.

  3. What does the PAC do for the school? Simonds is very fortunate to have a very active PAC, which has a great relationship of collaboration and support with our schoolteachers. Events run and funds raised by PAC are essential to make Simonds both a stronger inclusive and inviting community school, and one which is better resourced for our children. Funds from the government are decreasing every year, so the PAC is essential to raise the money to provide teachers with equipment and resources that enrich the experience for all of our students. Some of the vital resources that PAC provides include: · Classroom supplies to aid teachers run more creative sessions, · Subsidized field trips or school buses for field trips, · Library books and rainy day games, · Music equipment and gym equipment – balls, jump ropes, hockey sticks, etc. · Playground equipment, · Special education programs · Extra learning experiences such as author visits, music performances and educational shows which the children love and greatly benefit from.

  4. As parent volunteers, we want to support the school our children and attend and the community in which our children live. We understand that not everyone has the time to come out to every activity but every little bit you contribute makes a huge difference in the end. Please join us! Everyone is welcome to attend PAC meetings. They take place on the first Tuesday of every month (with the exception of the first meeting which is held one week later) in the staff room at 7 pm for a meet and greet with the meeting starting at 7:30 pm. Child care is provided free of charge. You are welcome to bring your interests or concerns for our agenda. Our first PAC meeting is Tuesday, September 17th @ 7 pm. Copies of our meeting minutes are available online and posted on the PAC bulletin board in the hallway across from the staff room. We appreciate your support!
