Introduction The Pyramids of Giza lie in Giza, Egypt with the three biggest pyramids being the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Kahfre, and the Pyramid of Menkaura with the Great Pyramid of Khufu being the largest out of the three. These pyramids were built during the 3rd and 4th Dynasty. The Great Pyramid of Khufu was the tallest building until the modern age when the Eiffel Tower was constructed.

  3. The King in charge of the building of the pyramids was King Khufu. He is also known as Cheops. King Khufu’s ruling was very kind. The pyramid was created by 100’000 people. They could only worked on it 3 months a year. During these months their farms were flooded. While working on them, the King gave them food and clothing. The King reasoned that if they all came together for a common goal, they could build nationalism without war.

  4. The 3 main pyramids each had an mortuary temple, a mastabas tomb, and smaller side pyramid. Royal officials and family were buried in these smaller pyramids. Each of these main pyramids had causeways that led to seperate valley temples along the Nile and The Sphynx.

  5. The main pyramid, The Pyramid of Khufu has sides that are oriented to the direction of the compass. Each length of the base is 755 feet. The pyramid was originally 481 feet high, but is currently 451 feet.

  6. It was constructed using 2’300’000 limestone blocks. Each block weighed an average of 2.5 tons, but they could reach up to 16 tons. It was cased with limestone, but that was removed to build Cairo.
