The Library Network • The network consists of 4 library sectors • Universities, polytechnics, special libraries and public libraries • Each sector has organised its own activities • Council + working committee structure • Each sector has a chair person and a secretary • 3 library consortia in the country • Linnea – library system • FinELib – national licensing and national portal • AMKIT – polytechnic libraries consortia

  4. National Library – service centre for libraries since 2006 • University law and act ( 2006) • New name – National Library of Finland • Enlarged clientele (4 sectors) • Defined services for the libraries network • Budgetary system • Central funding ca EUR 5.2 million

Service centre for libraries • Access to high quality information • National licensing – FinELib • National databases (national bibliography, other databases) • Development of the digital working environment • Library system development - Voyager • Portal Development – MetaLib, SFX • Digital Object management system development- DSpace; (DigiTool) • New system under development for • discovery and delivery of digital content • digital preservation • Impact assessment • Quantitative- library statistics • Qualitative - surveys
