  1. Download into PAFFromAncestral Quest click

  2. Load the PAF Database • Ancestral Quest can be launched from within PAF. • Ancestral Quest can also be launched from the Desktop. • This is what the the icon looks like. • click

  3. Launch from PAF • Select Tools • Select Ancestral Quest • Ancestral Quest is launched. • click

  4. PAF and Ancestral Quest Compatibility PAF .paf AQ • Launch PAF program • Open your file • Launch AQ program from PAF • AQ looks at the same file as PAF. • click

  5. Ancestral Quest • Needs to be initialized. • Select the box – Enable PAF Compatibility Mode. • click

  6. Ancestral Quest • Looks familiar. • click

  7. End-Of-Line • We want to add what newFamilySearch has that we don’t. • Found and selected a James Hannah. • click

  8. Syncing Data • Select FamilySearch on Menu bar. • Select Link (Sync) Individual • click

  9. Log-In • Before AQ can search for your ancestor, you need to log-in. • click

  10. Possible Matches • Four possible matches. • The time taken for search depends on the number of records. • click

  11. Comparison • Select the first possible matching record. • Your record is on the Left and the newFamilySearch data is on the Right. • Note – Other IDs • Scroll down to see more information. • click

  12. Decisions • Looking at more data. • This James has parents and multiple wives • Mark as the same. • click

  13. Link • By Selecting the Sync button, you are saying that this record in NewFamilySearchis the same person as your record. • click

  14. Next Window • Link Only • Proceed • click

  15. Get newFamilySearch Data • Your person in PAF is Synced with newFamilySearch. • Select FamilySearch on Menu bar. • Select - Import Family Lines. • click

  16. New Window • Import screen • click

  17. Import Ancestors • Options on whom to download. • Number of Generations is the number beyond that person. • Standardization is to the current location. • click

  18. Warning • Always backup your data before adding anything. • Select - No - as you have already backed up your data. • click

  19. Import Window • Indicates what is happening. • What generation is importing. • Number expected. • click

  20. Import Finished • The import window goes away and names appear where there were none. • click

  21. Pedigree View • Two generations added. • click

  22. Back to PAF • PAF has the same data that Ancestral Quest got from newFamilySearch. • click
