  1. Norfolk Public Schools Town Meeting May 10, 2011

  2. Tightrope Budget 2011: A Real Balancing Act • Did you know? • that developing a level-funded budget for FY12 meant cutting nearly a million dollars from last year’s budget? • that 100% of the reduction had to come from personnel because other non-fixed budget lines had already been reduced to $0 in previous years? • that without a significant increase in funding for FY13, your schools and consequently, your property values, are at risk?

  3. Did you know. . • that staffing for next year has been reduced by 8.7% 0r 11 FTE teachers, and 8 FTE aides? • that, in FY13, the H. Olive Day elementary school will need about $250,000 in technology funding just to be comparable with the new Freeman-Kennedy? • that the NPS has not invested in curriculum development in over 5 years?

  4. In the next year. . . • We are committed: •to working to create challenging learning expectations for all students, aligned with Common Core, but calibrated to reflect the high standards expected by Norfolk parents. • to creating more opportunities for expansion of Pre-K tuition-based services • to saving district funds by developing a new in-house Special Education program and improving currently available programming • to ongoing collaboration with Norfolk’s outstanding teachers and town colleagues to support your investment in the future of your children

  5. Many thanks. . . • To the volunteer members of the School Committee, to the Town Administrator, and the Board of Selectmen for their support of the Norfolk Public Schools over the course of this year. The Town of Norfolk is well served by these generous individuals. • To each of you for all your support – now and in the years ahead.
