Central Processing Unit (CPU) Also called Microprocessor is the central chip that determines the processing power of the computer. • The brain of the computer. • Determines how fast the computer is. • Interprets and executes the instructions contained in a program. • It is measured by Mega Hertz (MHz) or Gega Hertz (GHz) speed. • Manufactures: Intel, AMD, Motorola, etc.

  8. Storage Capacity Representation All information processed by computer is handled and stored in the binary form 0 or 1, which is called a bit. A Byte: a memory unit (8 bit), which represents a character or a symbol on the keyboard. It’s the unit used to measure Memory Capacity. Kilobyte (KB): 1024 (210) byte. Megabyte (MB): 1024 (210) Kilobyte. Gigabyte (GB): 1024 (210) Megabyte. Exercise: How many words in the memory, if the memory capacity was 256 KB, and each word is 8 Letters?
