  4. VA DECA Specialist Position PVCC seeks a full-time specialist to administer the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) to work with high schools throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

  5. VA DECA Specialist Position This position is responsible for : • Coordinating and administering the student organization activities, including meetings, conferences, and other co-curricular programs • Overall management of the organization, including finance and budgeting, planning and execution of new and existing programs 

  6. VA DECA Specialist Position Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Marketing Education or a related career or technical field • Must be licensed and certified to teach marketing education at the secondary level • Must have been a professional/advisory level member of a career and technical education co-curricular student organization for at least three years

VA DECA Specialist Position • If you are interested in applying for this position, you may go to the PVCC web site to see the job posting and download the application at http://www.pvcc.edu/human_resources/application_process.php • The application period will be from August 3 through August 21.  Applications will be reviewed beginning August 24. 

  8. VA DECA Specialist Position The DECA Specialists will be expected to go to PVCC campus when necessary for training and PVCC updates as needed, but will not be required to work in the Specialist office on a daily basis unless they desire to do so.

Fall Leadership Conference • A state-wide Fall Leadership Training Conference will not take place • Each district may submit a Fall Leadership Training Stipend Form by December 1, 2009 to receive up to $100 reimbursement for district leadership training (Refer to CMG Section B for the required form)

  21. Advancement from DLC to SLC • Districts with less than 350 members : 1st place overall individual event winners • Districts with 350-599 members: 1st and 2nd place overall individual event winners • Districts with 600+ members: 1st-3rd place overall individual event winners

  22. DLC • The Marketing Career Cluster Exam will be given for all DLC competitive events • In an effort to eliminate waste, districts advisors will be asked to submit a form indicating what award supplies are needed for their district events in 2009-2010; see Section K for the form

Fundamentals Events Job Interview, Communications, Selling • The Fundamentals title will be dropped Remember: • These events do not progress on to ICDC unless granted under special permission • These events are open only to any first year Marketing student currently enrolled in Introduction to Marketing, Principles of Business and Marketing or EFE I

  25. New Event Category Principles of Business Administration • These events are for 1st year DECA members/ Marketing students only • First year status will be verified by DECA Inc. If a student was a DECA Inc. member last year, that student cannot participate in these events. • Test (1/3 score), one role play (2/3 score)

  28. Team Decision Making Events TDM events are no longer limited to one per category. Chapters may decide where to place entries. For example: 3 STDM, 2 BTDM, 1 BLTDM, or 8 STDM Chapter allotment: • 0-40 members 1 team total • 41-80 members 2 teams total • 81-120 members 3 teams total • 121-160 members 4 teams total • 161-200 members 5 teams total • 201-240 members 6 teams total • 241- 280 members 7 teams total • 281- 320 members 8 teams total • 321- 360 members 9 teams total • 361 + members 10 teams total

Career Cluster Based Exams-SLC • Business Administration Core Exam for the new Principles events • Business Management & Administration Exam for Business Law and Ethics TDM • Hospitality and Tourism Exam for Hospitality Services TDM, Travel and Tourism TDM, Quick Service Restaurant and Restaurant and Food Service Management individual series events • Marketing Exam for all other TDM’s and CBCE’s, Advertising Campaign Event, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan, Technical Sales, and DECA Quiz Bowl

Research Events • Business Services Operations Research (split from BFR) • Buying and Merchandising Operations Research (similar to former RMR) • Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research • Sports and Entertainment Marketing Operations Research (new) • No longer in this category are BFR, GMR, and RMR. • Virginia will not adopt the Finance Operations Research event.

  32. Entrepreneurship Events • Chapters may enter 2 ENPI and 2 ENPF • Advancement spots to ICDC will remain the same

  33. Chapter Written Events Chapter Written events are no longer limited to one per category. Chapters decide where to place entries. For example: 3 CSP, 2 CMP, and 1 EP • 1-200 members = 6 entries max • 201-400 members = 9 entries max • 401 + members = 12 entries max

  36. State Officer Invitations • Contact State Officers through their Advisors if you would like to extend an invitation • Be prepared to cover the travel costs unless the State Officer would normally be at the event • VA DECA will not cover costs for chapter and district appearances

  37. State Officer Changes • There will no longer be a Candidate Row at SLC • We will continue the meet and greet session for voting delegates and candidates • Students seeking candidacy will take a test prior to SLC and must score 70 or better to run for office

  38. State Officer Changes • Candidates will give two speeches; one to the nominating committee and one to the voting delegates • Process to slate officer candidates will reflect rubric in areas for application completion, essay, speech, and interview

  39. Voting Delegates Voting delegates will attend SLC as a SLDA participant or as a competitive event participant.

Nominating Committee • A Nominating Committee will slate the state officer candidates • Students can apply to be on the nominating committee (four per region) • Applications will be available this fall • Due Date for nominating committee application is December 18, 2009; Students/advisors will be notified by January 8, 2010

  41. SLDA • Limited to Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors • Limited to one student per chapter and this individual must be classified as a voting delegate who will also attend SLDA • SLDA will have a competitive event component to include Public Speaking, Impromptu, and Creative Design

  42. State Leadership Conference • SLC Registration: January 5 - February 4, 2010 • Lodging will be completed after VA DECA has verified registration • SLC registration fee will include conference t-shirt, lanyard, and materials, no novelty item provided

  43. State Leadership Conference • Testing: SLC testing will take place online. We are anticipating a new vendor and streamlined process. Four career cluster-based exams will be given for competition. • Event ties will be recognized at the state level for role-plays and test, but not for overall winners.

  44. State Leadership Conference • Chaperone Ratio: VA DECA recommends a 1:8 teacher/advisor to student chaperone ratio for SLC, but schools divisions can follow their locality requirements for overnight trips if the school division ratio does not exceed 1:10.

  45. State Leadership Conference • Dress Code: All conference sessions (briefings, general, competitive) will be professional dress including a blazer. The semi-formal or formal attire is eliminated. • The dress code for the dance is conference t-shirt and jeans.

State Leadership Conference • An advisor pin (like ICDC pins) for 1st overall student placement in an SLC event will be awarded to teachers. • An incident report will be required to be filed with the DECA Specialist immediately after any infraction or illness occurs at SLC or ICDC. (See Section B for the form)

  47. State Leadership Conference • Students in schools with Hotel Marketing Programs who wish to participate in the Hotel Lodging Event for ICDC progression will take the online test for qualification. Top test performers will be recognized in the appropriate awards sessions and will advance to ICDC.

  49. ICDC • SLC balances must be paid in full before ICDC registration will be accepted. A signed Purchase Order proving proof of payment will be accepted. • One state meeting will take place at ICDC. • Funds will be reallocated to include a conference pack to all participants. • No special permissions will be granted until all the voting delegate slots are filled.

  50. ICDC Future dates and locations: • 2010 - April 24-27 Louisville, Kentucky • 2011 - April 30-May 3 Orlando, Florida • 2012 - April 28 – May 1 Salt Lake City, Utah • 2013 - April 24-27 Anaheim, California
