Copy • Historians argue that Britain followed a policy of appeasement because they did not know any better – Chamberlain thought it would work in the end… • Chamberlain followed a “play the game” approach to diplomacy. • Chamberlain had only really had experience with men who he could trust and so he could not see why this situation would be any different.

  4. Despite Chamerlain being in control of the country there were many other politicians who believed the policy of appeasement was wrong. Winston Churchill “"There is no greater mistake than to suppose that platitudes, smooth words, and timid policies offer a path to safety."
