  1. MSESP Grantee Webinar September 6, 2011

  2. Agenda • Welcome and Introductions • Getting to know you…. • Grantee Presentation: South Central College • Update on DOL Site Visit • Getting to know you…. • Grantee Presentation: Easy Energy Systems • Other Updates • Next Meeting

  3. Grantee Presentation • South Central College – Jeff Miller

  4. ISO 50001 Training Program South Central College Center for Business and Industry

  5. What is ISO 50001? • An international framework for industrial plants or companies to manage energy, including all aspects of procurement and use. • Provides organizations and companies with technical and management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs, and improve environmental performance. • Demonstrates that the organization implemented sustainable energy management systems, completed a baseline of energy use, and committed to continuously improve their energy intensity

  6. What is ISO 50001? • Expected to be popular with companies who already registered to the 9001 (quality management) and 14001 standard (environmental management) • Will have a similar framework based on the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) cycle of process improvement • Expected to provide significant cost savings along with positive marketing benefits • Based on broad applicability across national economic sectors, the standard could influence up to 60 percent of the world's energy demand.

  7. Grant Commitment • Develop 2 training programs to assist organizations with ISO 50001 Registration: • Understanding ISO 50001 • Internal Auditing and pre-registration auditing for ISO 50001 • Partner with MTU Onsite Energy in Mankato and train 12 employees in the above programs. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for auditing skill. • Collect and use feedback from the employees to assess and improve the ISO 50001 registration and auditing training. • Develop training materials, including participant manuals and trainer manuals, and deliver these materials to DOL.

  8. Progress • The final standard is still not released, and is currently six months behind the expected release date. • However, the final draft copy of the standard is available, so we are beginning to develop the training materials. • We are seeking out other sources for development and input on materials rather than utilizing ANSI as originally planned. We are concentrating on resources available in Minnesota. • We feel we can still meet the training timeline from the grant application and develop a better training product with Minnesota resources and partners.

  9. DOL Site Visit – September 12-16 • Will visit sites • Visit training, meet with participants • Check participant files – eligibility • Will check files on site for those visited • If not visited, will need to email/fax your files within 24 hours of notification • Need contact name/information for file request • Check fiscal and policies (eg, food, etc.) • DEED Monitoring Guide
